Paraclete
Advocate, Comforter — Christ's title for the Holy Spirit in St. John's Gospel.
Paraclete (from parakaleo, to call alongside) is one of Christ's titles for the Holy Spirit in St. John's Gospel: 'I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete' (John 14:16). The word means: Advocate (one who pleads on our behalf), Comforter (one who strengthens), Counselor, Helper. The Holy Spirit as Paraclete is the one sent by the Father (at the Son's request) and by the Son to continue Christ's work in the Church — teaching, guiding, convicting, and sanctifying.
