Theological opinions — views held by respected Fathers but not defined as dogma; may be questioned without heresy.
Theologoumena are the views of respected theologians not formally defined as dogma by the Church. They are distinguished from: defined dogmas (irreformable), common theological teaching (widely but not universally held), and private speculation. A theologoumena may be questioned or disputed without heresy, though serious grounds are required.
