Apocatastasis

Universal restoration — the teaching that all rational beings will ultimately be saved; debated and partly condemned.

Apocatastasis is associated with Origen and, more cautiously, Gregory of Nyssa. The most speculative Origenist version (all souls including demons will be saved) was condemned at Constantinople II (553 AD). Gregory of Nyssa's version — that evil will ultimately be destroyed while souls are purified — remains debated. Orthodox theology insists on the reality of human freedom and the genuine possibility of Hell, while acknowledging the tradition's complexity here.
