Miaphysitism

The Christology of the Oriental Orthodox — one united nature of the incarnate Word; distinguished from Eutychianism.

Miaphysitism (from mia, one, implying unity-in-duality) is the Christological position of the Oriental Orthodox churches following St. Cyril of Alexandria's formula: 'one united nature (mia physis) of the incarnate Word of God.' They distinguish this from Eutychianism by insisting that the divine and human are present completely and without confusion in the single nature. Modern ecumenical dialogue has largely concluded that the difference from Chalcedonian 'two natures' is terminological, not substantive.
