Economy of Salvation

The divine plan of redemption — God's ordered self-disclosure through history culminating in the Incarnation.

The economy of salvation (oikonomia tes soterias) is the entire ordered plan of God's self-disclosure and redemptive action through history: creation, the covenant with Abraham, the giving of the Law, the prophets, the Incarnation, the Cross, the Resurrection, Pentecost, the Church, and the eschatological fulfillment. 'Economy' (household management) captures the ordered, providential character of the divine plan. St. Paul uses it for the mystery hidden through the ages and now revealed in Christ (Ephesians 1:9-10, 3:2-10).
